General information on medicinal plants as a group of crop plants. Discussion of biologically active compounds found in plants for their biological activity. Presentation of the most important species of medicinal plants and spices, their origin and biology and significance in gardens, household and food industry

Introduction to the course. Definition of medicinal plants and specific substances. The criteria for herbal raw materials. Forms of herbal medicine (2)

Characteristics, occurrence, properties, use of main plant-specific substances (11)

The plants containing potent substances (2)

Classes (15 h):

Plants containing essential oils of families: Lamiaceae, Apiaceae and Asteraceae (5)

Plants containing glucosinolates and garlic oils (1)

Plants that provide exotic spices (2)

Plants containing bitter compounds, mucus, antracompounds, saponins and tannins (4)

Plants containing compounds belonging to the vegetable dyes (3)
