Skrócony opis:

The course develops fundamental principles of veterinary and environmental problems of animal husbandry and animal welfare in various livestock systems. The basic principles of protection of animal health and bio-security of animals farm will be showed. Moreover, Evaluation of quality and food safety and public health and zoonosis protection will be presented.

A special attention is devoted to the ecological aspects of poultry, cattle, pigs and sheep husbandry. Students will learn of measurement of microclimatic parameters and evaluation of the quality of habitat environment and welfare of animal. Moreover, veterinary and environmental problems in poultry hatcheries will be discussed.

The methods of teaching are lectures and practical exercises.

1. Veterinary legislation - 2 h;

2. General epidemiology - 4 h;

3. Protection of the animal farms (bio-security) - 4 h;

4. Organization of the laboratory diagnosis - 2 h;

5. Meat control - 8 hours;

6. Control of the animal feeding stuff preparation - 4 h;

7. Official monitoring system and its task in control of the animal diseases and food - 2 h;

8. Public health and zoonosis protection - 4 h;

9. Assessment of animal welfare – 1 h;

10. Microclimate parameters and their effect on production in animal housing – 2 h;

11. Methods for measuring microclimatic factors – 4 h;

12. Ventilation in livestock buildings - 3 h;

13. Evaluation of microclimate for livestock buildings -3 h;

14. Veterinary and environmental problems in poultry hatcheries -2 h

• Knowledge about the principle of veterinary supervision over acquisition, transport and processing of means of animal origin;

• Knowledge of the basic European legal acts in the fields of veterinary medicine and food safety;

• Knowledge about the most important poisons and their impact on animal organisms;

• Proficiency in the rules of developing prevention programs for various animal species;

• Knowledge about specificity of animal nutrition depending on physiological condition.

Skills

• Skill in defining the criteria and conditionings of farm animal welfare and hygiene, prophylaxy and veterinary prevention in animal production

• Ability to define zoonoses concerning veterinary protection of public health

• Ability to regulate the microclimate in a farm building.

Social competences

• Student is aware of constant upgrading of his knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine and sanitary-veterinary supervision
