  • 1 punkt ECTS odpowiada 25-30 godzinom pracy studenta potrzebnej do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się;
  • tygodniowy nakład pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się pozwala uzyskać 1,5 ECTS;
  • nakład pracy potrzebny do zaliczenia przedmiotu, któremu przypisano 3 ECTS, stanowi 10% semestralnego obciążenia studenta.

The main objective of the course is the identification of the most important disease agents and pests occurring in horticulture crop plants (vegetables, orchards and ornamentals). Introduction to integrated plant protection (IPM) systems for vegetable and orchard. Principles of using chemical protection against pests and disease agents.

Lectures:

1. Purposes and aims of plant protection.

2. The main groups of pests and pathogens infesting horticulture crops

3. Bases of forecasting of plant disease presence

4. Methods of forecasting pests in horticultural production

5. Principles of integrated plant protection programmes (IPM

systems).

6. Fungicides, pesticides and non-chemical protection in IPM systems

Lessons:

1. Identification of main pathogens occurring in vegetable crops.

2. Identification of pests in vegetable crops

3. Identification of main pathogens occurring in orchard crops.

4. Identification of pests of fruit trees and bushes

5. Protection methods recommended in IPM system (quarantine,

agrotechnical, physical, biological and rearing methods).

6. Selection and rules for the use of plant protection substances in IPM systems

Field trip:

2. Student explains the need for an appropriate method to control pests in horticultural crops.

1. Student selects a suitable preparation for disease control.

2. Student adjusts the available methods and technologies for horticulture plant protection.

3. Student applies the appropriate equipment and tools to protect horticultural crops.

1. Student uses various sources of knowledge when making decisions on the protection of horticultural crops.

2. Student appreciates the need of the environmental protection when applying horticultural plant protection.

Grade E (2.0) Student: does not understand the theoretical or practical background of IPM In horticulture production. Does not recognize symptoms of pests and diseases occurring in horticulture crops. Does not know how to forecast pests and diseases. Does not know the list of pesticides recommended for IPM programs.

Grade D (3.0) Student: understands the features of IPM pest and diseases control. Knows how to recognize some pests and diseases occurring in orchards and on vegetables in fields and under covers. Knows how to predict only main pests and diseases. Knows some tools used in forecasting and monitoring pests and diseases. Understands general need of introducing IPM programs in horticulture. Recognizes only some beneficial insects and mites. Knows some pesticides and fungicides proposed in IPM programs

Grade C (3.5) Student: recognizes symptoms of some pests and diseases occurring on horticulture crops. Recognizes the important development stages of some main pests and beneficial mites and insects occurring in orchards and vegetable fields. Knows main economic thresh-holds applied in plant protection of horticulture crops. Understand the need of introducing biological pest and diseases control and knows some biological agents used in IPM programs. Generally knows how to predict the appearance of pests and diseases and is able to apply the tools used in forecasting. Knows most of chemicals used in IPM programs.

Grade B (4.0) Student: recognizes symptoms of main pests and diseases occurring in horticulture crops. Recognizes main development stages of most of pests and beneficial mites and insects occurring in orchards and vegetable crops. Knows most of economic thresh-holds applied in plant protection of horticulture crops. Understands the need of introducing biological pest and diseases control and knows most of biological agents used in IPM programs. Knows how to predict the appearance of pests and diseases and is able to apply the tools used in forecasting. Knows the criteria of selection of chemicals used in IPM programs.

Grade B+ (4.5) Student: recognizes symptoms of most pests and diseases occurring on horticulture crops. Recognizes the important development stages of most of pests and beneficial mites and insects occurring in orchards and vegetable fields. Knows all economic thresh-holds applied in plant protection of horticulture crops. Understands the need of introducing biological pest and diseases control and knows all biological agents used in IPM programs. Knows how to predict the appearance of pests and diseases and is able to apply the tools used in forecasting. Knows the criteria of selection of chemicals used in IPM programs.

Grade A (5.0) Student: recognizes symptoms of all pests and diseases occurring on horticulture crops. Recognizes the important development stages of pests and beneficial mites and insects occurring in orchards and vegetable fields. Knows all economic thresh-holds applied in plant protection of horticulture crops.. Understands the need of introducing biological pest and diseases control and knows all biological agents used in IPM programs. Knows how to predict the appearance of pests and diseases and is able to apply the tools used in forecasting. Knows the criteria of selection of chemicals used in IPM programs. Understands the differences between them.
