The course provides students with an insight into the application of tools of molecular biology and genomics to poultry breeding, conservation and management. The laboratory practicals will be given to provide a method of evaluation of genetic diversity in poultry with the use of STR markers. |

1. Current state of knowledge of genome of poultry such as chickens, quails, turkey, geese and ducks. 2. Development of genomics technologies in commercial poultry breeding. 3. Application of molecular markers for the study of domestic birds populations. 4. Genome-wide selection in poultry. 5. Conservation genetics in poultry breeding. 6. Amplification and detection of STR markers in endangered populations of indigenous poultry breeds and varieties. Statistical analysis of molecular data. |

Knowledge Student have a working knowledge on poultry genome and breeding strategies. Student knows commonly used molecular tools in poultry breeding and conservation. Skills Student is able to design and conduct the experiment in the field of biodiversity studies of poultry with the use of microsatellite genetic markers (STR) and to analyze the results. |
