The course contains introduction to the specific and diversity of Polish agriculture. Shows the internal and external factors that determine agriculture production in Polish conditions.

1. Conditions of Polish agriculture and ford economics (2 hours)

2. Socio-economic diversification of rural areas (2 hours)

3. Changes in agriculture with particular emphasis on structural changes (2 hours)

4. The rural population – employment, unemployment, social capital in rural areas (2 hours)

5. Spatial diversity of Polish farms (2 hours)

6. Spatial diversity of agricultural production in Poland (2 hours)

7. The economic development of rural areas versus the environment – interdependences and conflicts (2 hours)

8. The structure of agribusiness and its elements (2 hours)

9. Synthetic view of national and EU agricultural policy (2 hours)

10. Impact of the UE funds on the Polish agriculture and food economy (2 hours)

11. Rural tourism and agrotourism in Poland (2 hours)

12. Organic farming and integrated production in Poland (2 hours)

13. Farm Advisory System in Poland (2 hours)

14. The implementation of the cross-compliance mechanism in Poland (2 hours)

Efekty uczenia się:

Knowledge:

- students have the knowledge about specifics of Polish agriculture, know its conditions and effects,

- students gain the knowledge about key elements that distinguishes Polish agriculture and food economics,

- students have the knowledge about the European Union funds for Poland,

- students possess the knowledge about systems of food production in Poland

Skills:

- students have the skills of locating Polish agriculture in Europe and the world,

- students know the basic English vocabulary related to agriculture, EU funds, rural areas,

- students are able to give examples of organic farming,

- students are able to search and collect information concerning the Polish agriculture.

Social competence:

- students can participate in discussions on topic related to agriculture,

- students recognize the continuous need of improving their knowledge and searching information.

Evaluation criteria:

On the basis of a written test: answering questions about the issues presented during lectures.

Grades A – E:

Grade E (2.0). Very low level of understanding , less than 40%

Grade D (3.0). Basic information about the lectures, 45-55%

Grade C (3.5). Ability to discuss any problem at the intermediate level, 60%

Grade B (4.0). Good understanding of the subject, ability to ask about different issues connected with the lectures, 70%

Grade B+ (4.5). Very good knowledge about the subject, student is interested in the subject and asks for more information, works on his own 85%

Grade A (5.0). Excellent understanding of the issues, full discussion, 90%.
