Skrócony opis: |
The lectures will cover basic methodologies underlying genetic modification of organisms. Students will learn how to create recombinant DNA molecules and how to introduce them into living cells. Special emphasis will be placed on selected cloning (expression cloning, site-directed mutagenesis) and reverse genetics approaches. Moreover, the lectures will address the growing potential of DNA amplification and next-generation sequencing in genetic engineering applications. Finally, controversial ethical issues of genetic manipulations and their broad social perception will be presented. The practical course will provide hands-on experience on all steps of cloning a PCR product in a plasmid vector. This will be accompanied by setting up an expression culture and isolation of a recombinant protein. |
