Skrócony opis: |
(tylko po angielsku) The number of domesticated fish species is rising rapidly, due to the development of commercial aquaculture. One of the precondition for domestication and the establishment of a sustainable aquaculture industry is the capacity to control reproductive processes of fish in captivity, and to acquire high quality seed (i.e., eggs and sperm) for grow-out of the marketable fish. Although many cultured fishes today fulfill this condition, there are important species whose aquaculture industries depend almost exclusively on the collection of juveniles or adults from the wild. In this situation the knowledge of fish gonad maturation and reproduction are very important, as the use of the methods of controlled reproduction, determines the possiblity of certain species culture. |
Pełny opis: |
(tylko po angielsku) In the frame of „Fish reproduction” course the chosen issues of maturation and reproduction physiology are discussed. Different forms of fish sexuality (gonochorism, hermaphroditism, gynogenesis) and reproductive strategies are defined. Male and female reproductive system, hormonal control of gonad maturation (gametogenesis, spermiation and ovulation), seasonality of breeding, sexual cycles, natural and controlled reproduction, the role of pheromones, as well as the most recent methods of fish propagation in aquaculture will be discussed. Practical assessment of male and female gonad maturity stages, induction of spermiation and ovulation with the use of hormonal preparations, practical aspects of fish artificial reproduction in fish farm conditions. |

Efekty uczenia się: |
(tylko po angielsku) Knowledge: Student describes methods and usage of breeding biotechniques and genetic diagnostics in animals raising and breeding, defines rules of planning and organisation of breeding work, describes methods and programmes of animal improving. Student knows and understands basic concepts that concern genetic resources protection and need to act in that range. Skills: Student uses methods of gametes biotechnology, can choose strategy of animals improvement, uses genetic information to evaluate breeding and selection values, estimates breeding work efficiency. Student can collect, preserve, store and analyse biological and genetic material in order to protect animals biodiversity and also interprets information from various sources that concern animal genetic resources protection. Social competences: Sttudent knows the range of gained knowledge and skills, understands the need to learn and constant training and is able to organize learning process of the other people. |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
(tylko po angielsku) Positive evaluationt is obtained on the base of formative assessment and it is issued on the basis of the arithmetic average of the three components of educational results (knowledge, skills and social competences). |
